PREBIOTIC

Prebiotics are fibers that pass through the gastrointestinal tract undigested. The healthy flora in the intestine uses them as food source (good bacteria) for probiotics, and once they reach the colon, they are fermented and produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which promote a healthy gut by stimulating the growth and activities of specific bacteria. These benefits include proper digestion, maintaining normal intestinal electrolyte and fluid balance, reducing inflammation, and reducing risk of digestive tract disease

Gut bacteria can ferment only the soluble fibers. Performa3 formulations contain fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) which is extracted from chicory root. Many studies have reported improvement in general well-being of companion animals using the FOS.
